November 17 - December 23: Sickle Cell Annual Holiday Food Drive - The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc., Northwest Louisiana Chapter is sponsoring its Annual Holiday Food Drive. The Food Drive gives them the opportunity to assist their sickle cell patients and clients, who whould not have the chance otherwise, to have a traditional Christmas dinner. The Friends of Sickle Cell support group coordinates the Drive each year. They are accepting all non-perishable food items and cash donations to help bring a joyous holiday to their sickle cell patients and clients. December 13: Christmas Ornament Party - Shreve Memorial Library Wallette Branch, located at 363 Hearne Avenue in Shreveport is hosting a Christmas Ornament Party on December 13, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 pm. Children and Adults will be able to come in between these hours and make ornaments and Christmas cards for themselves or to give to others as gifts. December 13: Fish Fry - The Airline High School Softball Team is holding a Fish Fry fundraiser to help out their twin teammates Mallory and Megan Waggoner, who both had encephalitis. This fish fry is to assist the family and show community support. It will be from 11-2 at Airline High Scholl, and tickets will be availible beforehand at a cost of $10. December 13-14: Drive-Thru Christmas Pageant - A cast of some 100 church members, plus many live animals including a reprise appearance of Clyde the camel, will appear in this year's "Journey to Bethlehem" drive-thru Nativity scene at Benton United Methodist Church on Saturday December 13 and Sunday December 14 from 6:30-9 pm. The church is located at 4615 Palmetto Rd next to the Bossier Parish 911 building. Small tour buses and vans welcome. December 17: Avoiding the 8 Critical Mistakes That Will Short-Circuit Your Career Workshop - Shreve Memorial Library will be holding a free Avoiding the 8 Critical Mistakes That Will Short-Circuit Your Career workshop Wednesday, December 17th at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Internationally acclaimed speaker and author G. Eric Gordon will identify all of the tools you need to navigate these uncertain times. Get the inside scoop on how to improve your work habits, grow your value in the workplace, and advance your career instead of worrying about it. December 19: Russ-Town Band Christmas - On Friday, December 19, the Dixie Center for the Arts at 212 N. Vienna Street in Ruston will present the Russ-Town Band in a charity concert to benefit the food bank of Christian Community Action and Toys for Tots at 7:30 pm. Celebrate the season with a night fuul of your favorite Christmas songs performed by over fifty local professional, semi-professional, and amateur musicians conducted by its co-founder and manager Lawrence Gibbs. Admission is free with a donation to one of the charities (a wrapped toy, canned and non-perishable food, money, etc.). Bring your Christmas spirit, here some good music, and help those who need help.

December 20: Yogie and Friends Bake Sale - Celebrate the holidays with scrumptious baked goods and Yogie merchandise for sale at their Christmas Bake Sale at Courtyard Coffee, 7436 Youree Drive, Shreveport, (next to Michael's), on Saturday, December 20th from 11:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. Help these wonderful exotic cats. There will be Whoopie Pies, Gift Tins chock full of baked goods, Heavenly Christmas Cookies and more. December 20-21: Christmas Under the Stars - On December 20 and 21 at the 4K Arena, located at 593 Cordova Rd. in Logansport, LA, the Cornerstone Ministry will present Christmas Under the Stars. From 3pm to 5:30pm, there will be a Walk Thru Bethlehem, followed by a free meal with a special performance by the Sondance Riders from 5pm to 6:30pm. The program itself begins at 7pm. December 24: Candlelight Services - Kings Highway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 860 Kings Highway in Shreveport will hold two candlelight services on Christmas Eve. December 27: Dixieland Dog Rescue Adoption Day - From 11 am until 5pm at the Petsmart on 7061 Youree Dr. in Shreveport, Dixieland Dog Rescue will be hosting an adoption day. There will be a great variety of rescued dogs in top condition: spayed and neutered, with current shots and heartworm free. A $150.00 tax-deductible donation is required for adoption.
