‘CHECK MY REFUND’ is a helpful tool on the IRS website that allows tax payers to track their refund money. The IRS issues most refund in less than 21 days, although some require additional time.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Social security number or ITIN
  • Your filing status
  • Your exact refund amount

Check you refund status here. No internet? No problem! You can also check the status of your refund by calling the IRS Tele Tax System at

1-800-829-4477.

Should You Call the IRS?

The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, although some require additional time. You should only call if it has been:

  • 21 days or more since you e-filed
  • 6 weeks or more since you mailed your return, or when
  • “Where’s My Refund” tells you to contact the IRS
